Visit Hahei & Cathedral Cove
Accessible only on foot or by boat is the famous Cathedral Cove, one of the must see sites on the Coromandel Peninsula. There are several scenic tracks on land adjacent to the reserve, including the 2 hour return walk to Cathedral Cove track, which gives access to Gemstone Bay, Mares Leg and Cathedral Cove. The track begins at the northern end of Hahei where there is also a large car park area, information plaques and a spectacular lookout. Alternatively, try Cathedral Cove Kayaks for the ultimate in kayak expericence. Visit Hot Water Beach
Located 30 minutes south of Whitianga for two hours either side of low tide, you can dig in the sand for hot spring water and make your own hot pool. It is a fun activity to do in the summer or winter time. Take your own spade from our reception or hire one from the local store.

Visit Kuaotunu, Whangapoua & Matarangi
Head north of Whitianga to the old gold mining town of Kuaotunu, featuring some of the best beaches found on the Coromandel Peninsula. The steep and winding Black Jack Road leads over to the beautiful beaches of Otama and Opito with a fantastic walk at the far end of Opito Bay.

Matarangi is a modern beach resort where you will find the Matarangi Shopping Centre, a long surf beach and the sheltered Whangapoua Harbour.

Boat launching ramps in the area allow boaties to visit the Mercury Islands which are just offshore.
